At the Forever Association, our focus for investment revolves around partners and projects building innovative businesses that capture a unique market advantage, particularly (but not exclusively) in ESG and related areas. We look for opportunities where we can add value by leveraging our experience, connections and importantly our market leading Web3 technology.

Our rationale in this approach allows us to achieve “Innovation Squared,” where we are not just creating a new or slightly better product, but adding value to entire industries. One area where we are uniquely positioned to drive strong business models is across Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and perhaps even more exciting — small data.

Shaping the future of AI and the Caribbean

Next week, Ray has been invited to speak at the Annual Research Conference for Artificial Intelligence at the University of the West Indies Five Island Campus.

This conference aspires to serve as a hub for AI experts, policymakers, and stakeholders, fostering collaboration on AI adoption strategies, addressing AI-related risks, and promoting ethical practices. It aims to pave the way for innovative approaches and transformative collaborations that will shape the Caribbean’s future by uniting renowned AI minds globally to explore how AI can drive sustainable development in the Caribbean region.

How DevvE can contribute

Our Web3 technology has been noted for its ability to ensure privacy, regulatory compliance, and security for developing AI solutions at scale. We can also provide assurances through completely transparent and time-ordered data, enhancing data richness. This is incredibly important and solves many current problems faced by industry professionals who will also be presenting at the conference.

Due to our platform’s unique architecture and RESTful API integration, something that has become increasingly exciting is our ability to solve the data interoperability problems for big data across multiple platforms. More data means more robust solutions. But we’re not just about big data; the ability to manage actionable small data, like medical records, in a compliant way is a game-changer for effectively and quickly responding to diagnostic challenges. This important data has yet to be fully tapped into.

A global vision

Our vision for DevvE, as we have always communicated, is to achieve global scale. For AI that means compliance, interoperability and well as enabling trusted data for training plus huge time and resource savings. This approach is somewhat similar to Nvidia’s role and how they support AI as a sector. They do not build the front-end business solutions; they build the chips and infrastructure to process vast amounts of data, and in doing so, are now rightly staking their claim as the biggest company in the world. This is also where we see the DevvE Ecosystem play an integral role.

Also very exciting: how replicable this technology is across the world. Recently, Lord Holmes from the UK House of Lords and member of Digital Technology for Public Good introduced a bill to the House around the regulation of AI, which will have major implications for enterprise applications that do not adhere to the proposed laws.

The TLDR

Any persons involved in AI training must supply to the AI authority a record of all third-party data and IP used in its training, prove there is informed consent for the use of that data, and ensure compliance with existing IP and copyright obligations. Any business that develops, deploys, or uses the technology must allow the AI authority to audit their processes and systems. This isn’t happening just in the UK; regulations with different reporting requirements are popping up across the world in an effort to protect people’s personal data.

In a recent interview with OpenAI’s CTO, the question was asked if OpenAI used YouTube videos to train their models. The answer was dodged with a now infamous and incriminating look, which further spurred concerns by content creators and independent journalists who feared their work was being stolen.

There is no existing technological infrastructure that can comply with the upcoming regulations while making AI technology useful for businesses. The time and costs associated with sourcing, managing, licensing, and auditing for compliance will push the technology beyond the reach of most businesses. Until now, there has not been a platform that can transparently prove the sources of data, its reliability for enterprises to make real-world decisions, and guarantee the safety of digital IP.

The takeaway… DevvE is in a prime spot to provide a viable solution for training and supporting ethical AI.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates as we embark on a month full of milestones that will shape our future, yours, and the future of web3 as a whole.
